Sautéed Brussels Sprouts

Brussels sprouts are often looked down on, but when cooked right, they’re absolutely delicious. My Sautéed Brussels Sprouts are tender on the inside, slightly caramelized, crispy and crunchy on the outside. With just a handful of ingredients, you can turn a modest veggie into a comforting side dish.

You might often see Brussels sprouts roasted. While that’s a great method I personally find it easier and more efficient to sauté them. Sautéing gives you more control over the cooking process, and the best part is, you can taste and adjust as you go.

Why You’ll Love These Sautéed Brussels Sprouts

  • It’s a quick and easy dish!- In just 15 minutes, you can enjoy some tender, caramelized, crispy and crunchy Brussels Sprouts.
  • It’s full of flavor- This dish is garlicky, salty, peppery and perfectly seasoned.
  • It’s a versatile dish- This is a great dish for dinner parties (double or triple the batch as needed) or simple weeknight meals. Throw them in a salad for some added crunch with your favorite dressing and other fixings.

Ingredients for Sautéed Brussels Sprouts

  • Brussels Sprouts, cut in half trimmed and washed You’ll need 1 pound. I typically buy mine in the bag from Trader Joe’s.
  • Olive Oil- Just 2 tablespoons is perfect for this recipe
  • Garlic Powder- I like to use garlic powder as opposed to fresh garlic or minced garlic because the powder coats every single piece evenly.
  • Salt- I use about 1 teaspoon of salt, however, feel free to salt to taste. Don’t hesitate to add more if needed!
  • Black Pepper- ½  teaspoon of black pepper is all we need here.

How to Make Sautéed Brussels Sprouts

Sautéing Brussels sprouts is simple! Here are the steps:

  1. Preheat the skillet: Heat your cast-iron or stainless skillet over medium-high heat for about 2 minutes.
  2. Add oil: Once hot, add the olive oil.
  3. Sear the Brussels sprouts: Place them cut-side down in a single layer. Let them cook undisturbed for about 4-5 minutes until deeply golden brown.
  4. Stir and season: Toss the sprouts, add salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  5. Continue to cook: Cook for another 3-4 minutes or until tender.
  6. Finish and serve: Remove from heat and serve hot.

For a proper sauté, don’t overcrowd the pan and avoid tossing too often!

Tips for Sautéed Brussels Sprouts

  • Cut them evenly: Halve your sprouts so each piece cooks at the same rate.
  • Don’t crowd the pan: Yes, it’s OK if they touch, but don’t pack the pan. Give them room so they crisp instead of steam.
  • Leave them undisturbed: Let the cut sides sear for a few minutes to form a slight crust before tossing them.
  • Keep your eye on them: In order to avoid burning them, keep your eye on them. Turn down your heat if needed.

How to Serve Sautéed Brussels Sprouts

Serve these Sautéed Brussels Sprouts with just about anything! They’re great paired with roast chicken, salmon or steak. Even toss them in a salad or a cozy grain bowl. Serve them at your holiday table, as a quick side with lunch or even toss them with pasta and a little crispy chopped bacon for a simple and delicious meal.

Now, you can see just how easy it is to make Brussels sprouts the sautéed way. Hopefully, once you taste them, they’ll leave you wanting more. Enjoy each and every bite of this dish!
