What Makes Creamy Mashed Potatoes Comforting?
- They’re the ultimate comfort food! Every bite is cozy!
- They’re smooth and buttery.
- They pair well with a lot of different dishes.
Ingredients for Creamy Mashed Potatoes

- Russet Potatoes– These make perfectly fluffy mashed potatoes! I mostly use russet potatoes because they’re what I typically have on hand. However, if you prefer, feel free to swap them out for Yukon gold or red potatoes.
- Unsalted Butter– Makes the potatoes rich and creamy.
- Hot Milk– Keeps the potatoes warm and smooth.
- Salt & Pepper– Enhances the overall flavor.

How to Make Creamy Mashed Potatoes
- Step 1. Prepare the Potatoes: Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add about a tablespoon of salt to season them as they cook.
- Step 2. Boil Until Tender: Bring the water to a rapid boil over high heat, then reduce to medium and let the potatoes simmer for 30 to 35 minutes. They’re ready when they easily slide off a fork or knife when pierced.
- Step 3. Drain, Mash, Season & Mix: Drain the potatoes, then mash them using a potato masher or a mixer (as pictured). Add the butter, hot milk, salt, and pepper, mixing until smooth and creamy.
- Step 4. Taste & Adjust: Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Step 5. Serve & Enjoy: Serve with your favorites and enjoy!
